Adobe After Efftects
I have taken some screenprints from my A2 blog to give an example of the types of software skills I have developed, I have learnt how to use Adobe After Effects by watching tutorials on Youtube.
I have used Adobe after effects to edit the appearance of my shot. It creates similar effects as those on photoshop, however it is done different with different controls. I have used Youtube to look at tutorials on how to create certain effects. For example we wanted to create a vignette in a few shots. This was done by holding down the shape tool at the top and selective 'eclipse' this gives the circle look, you then double click and it creates a black circle around the image, sleeve inverse in 'edit' and this makes the frame black with a transparent oval in the centre.
After this I opened the 'Mask 1' tool which shows the different things you can alter in order to create a smooth, more subtle vignette, I have editing the feathering button a lot and played around with the other 3 below until I got the vignette I visualised.
After I had done that I used the colour correction tool to edit the brightness and contrast and hue and saturation on the shot so that it became more grey and desaturated.
This was our final product of the edited shot. Here I have given an example of how I have used curves to alter the look of the image, this basically changes the contrast and saturation of the image depending on where abouts you move the line on the grid.
Film Marketing, Distribition and Branding
Marketing
New media is extremely important nowadays for film marketing. As new media is produced particular sites become more popular to a variety of audiences, this then becomes a new way to advertise particular films. New technology and new media is used to alert particular audiences about new films which are being released. This is done now by using youtube, twitter, facebook, posters and QR codes. They use these for new advertising I'm order to make their movies aware to an audience. New media and technology has encouraged a wide variety of people to purchase smart phones these come in handy as they make us able to scan QR codes to find a website more easily. This is a short video which explains the uses and benefits of using QR codes.
I have made my own QR code which will direct you to a page which will inform you about the benefits of QR codes and Film marketing.
Distribution
Distributors are the people who create the marketing campaign for films. They do this by producing -
Posters
Trailers
Websites
Organise free previews
Press packs
TV interviews with talent
Sign contracts
Competitions
etc....

Distributors tend to use their know-how and size to make sure that the DVDs end up on shelves of supermarkets and stores, therefore making sure that the movies are able to make as much profit as possible.
Distributors also obtain the BBFC certificate, and use this to make sure that certain types of movies are released at appropriate times
for example, a horror movie released at Halloween or suspicious times such as Friday 13th. The ring is a prime example, being a Horror/Thriller movie it was released in October 18, 2002. This makes room for as much viewing as possible as the release date would be relevant.
Additional Comments
This is a brief summery of my understanding about Marketing and Distribution, this is work I have looked at during AS Level. However, I am currently looking in more depth at marketing and promotion by creating a digi pack and poster for an ancillary task for my pop promo at A2.
This is the front cover for our bands album so far, I have used my artistic and photography skills to paint over a photograph to give the images a more creative approach, although unfinished, this gives an idea on the types of tasks I have been involved in during A2 Media.
Textual Analysis
This prezi shows how I have textually analysed an opening title sequence. Linking with my work at AS.
Contiunity understanding
This is a post to show my understanding of continuity in film and its importance when filming and within pre production stages.
30 degree angle cut
This is a rule within media which allows a fresh cut, that doesn't create a jump cut. Jump cuts can cause the camera to flick from one position to another. This isn't positive as it makes the editing seem amateur as the cut isn't at the right angle to blend the cuts tog
ether, nor is it at the right angle to make the cuts look neat and intentional.
eyeline match cut.
This is the cut between two shots which
involves person A being cut off the screen looking off in one direction
This is then captured in the next cut where person B will be looking back in the exact opposite direction, in order to create an eyeline match.
This is important as we establish the relationship between the two people and this makes it clear who is talking to who and therefore makes the editing look more realistic.
This is two alternated cuts edited together, which usually occur during a conversation situation. These examples are also over the shoulder shots. These can be used as point of view shots or almost as a third person. They are effective in film as they engage the audience and make them feel involved.

Establishing Shot.
These are used at the beginning of a film and at the end, however, at the end of the movie the name changes to a re-establishing shot. These are used as shots that lead into or return to a space or location after a series of close ups have been performed.
These are also used to establish particular moods during the movie as the weather changes compared to the first time we view the setting.

Treatment and log line
Logline
'A young, innocent girl, living at home with just her mother , becomes the centre of attention to a stalker. The stalker becomes more and more obsessed with the girl until he decides to kidnap. His thoughts become more twisted as he keeps diaries of her routines, in the quest to capture her'
Treatment
A young girl, vulnerable and naïve, encouraged by the mind of a psychopathic stalker. Watching her every move and following her paths as she unknowingly lives her daily life with her single parent mother. Little do they know that their lives were about to change when the stalking becomes obsessive and plans began to form.
His mentally disturbed life begins to revolve around her, he begins to keep photographs and diaries of her daily routines, craving her presence and becoming determined to capture her.
All begins to become more intense as the mother grows suspicious, seeing a man present as they play in the park and take walks to school. This suspicion becomes aware to the stalker, making him become uncomfortable and identified. This causes a change in action, which speeds up his plot to take the young girl.
Conversation is made between the mother and the stalker when his curiosity about the young girl becomes unbearable. He makes himself seem ordinary as he reveals himself to the mother and daughter, asking them if they have seen his dog. He uses this as a conversation starter, but soon mentions questions about the young girl, comparing her to his 'niece' to disguise any further suspicion. The answers he received were vague, but fills the stalker in with her interests and hobbies, which he dwells on as he they give him ideas of ways to lure her into his path.
Being the 1960's, paedophilia was not recognized as an issue, therefore making his plot very easy. The stalker proceeds with his kidnapping, following the young girl and her mother as they walk home from school through the woodland. This was a restricted area which allowed him to all too easily take the child. Once the child runs ahead, he strikes, pulling the young girl backwards as he suffocates the mother. Hopelessly the young girl cries for help while watching her mother being beaten to the ground by a stranger. Unconscious, the mother lay on the floor, giving the stalker opportunity to escape with her daughter, while she lay unaware and helpless in the middle of the wood.
The stalker takes the young girl to a small shack, which he had been creating especially for her. They remain here for weeks, whilst the mother pleads for justice in hospital. The childs photographs were posted over newspapers and on milk cartons, but nothing was reported. Until a hole the young girl had been creating in the wall becomes big enough for her to escape. She takes the only opportunity she can find to run. With just one chance she sprints for her life and finds herself in a new town, in a place she doesn't recognize.
Her father who has only ever seen his daughter through the photographs in the newspaper, spots her as she scatters around alone, confused and gagging for help. He takes her to her mother in hospital who was suffering from severe injuries, and soon passes away, leaving the young girl with only a father she barley knew. Eventually she ends up living with her father, who cares and nurtures her as her mother once did. Protected and safe, she carries on her new life as though it was her old.
Above I have given an example of my treatment for my Opening title sequence at AS.
Song by Keane - Bedshaped
A young boy, vulnerable and naïve lives his school life being threatened and intimidated by his peers. He walks home, depressed and alone, everyday reflecting on the nasty comments and jokes made about him, because of his timid and shy nature we plan to have our first shot introducing and emphasising on this aspect of our main actor. We plan to have a point of view shot of the boy looking down at his scraggy shoes as he walks home from school. This will be followed a range of different shorter shots, such as close ups of his face in his bedroom showing his depression and anxiety to live any longer. We will also show medium and long shots as he sits on the edge of his bed and runs his hands over his face and through his hair demonstrating his stress and incapability to deal with the situation in which he is facing.
We plan to have the first verse of the victim walking around alone at school, we will use medium, 3 quarter and close up shots of him as he walks. We then plan to have him looking at the happiness of the other students in school, although he is aware that they consider him to be watching them in a freaky or weird way. We will present this by having point of view shots as he looks at the other students, then with continuity we will use a close up shot as he looks away in fear. This should set the lonely atmosphere and inevitable troubles which he faces everyday at school.
As the song comes to the Bridge, 'Don't laugh at me' are the lyrics sung which we want to emphasise on, we plan to do this by having the point of view shots of the students as they give him strange looks and laugh at him as he walks alone, envious of the friends and normal lives which the other students have.
For the start of the Chorus we plan have the young boy walking home and through his back door, where we see his mum in dirty clothes smoking, without acknowledging the fact her son is a bad state. We will then show extreme close up lip syncs of certain words such as 'what do I know' and 'I know' as it almost seems as though he is talking to himself, creating a more personal feel and linking the lyrics to the video. We will locate this part in his bedroom as though he was thinking back on his day at school, realising he cannot deal with his issue any longer.
For the instrumental we plan to speed up the pace and use close up shots of the boys face crying as he wipes his face roughly. Then we will shot back to his mum, using a close up of her mouth as she smokes, showing her unawareness and inability to care for her son, this will continue to go back and forth to the son as he debates his death and the mother as she smokes irresponsibly. Leading to the last chorus where we see a close up of a chair and the boys feet as he stands on it preparing to take his own life. Then will then have a shot of his mother sitting up. Cut back to him knocking away the chair as the music fades down, this will follow a fade to black as his mum looks up rapidly and shouts his name. There will then be a series of fade to black shots where the mother runs upstairs, (Fade to black) then opens the door (fade to black) clutches his legs crying, then fades to black at the ending of the song.
