New media is extremely important nowadays for film marketing. As new media is produced particular sites become more popular to a variety of audiences, this then becomes a new way to advertise particular films. New technology and new media is used to alert particular audiences about new films which are being released.This is done now by using youtube, twitter, facebook, posters and QR codes. They use these for new advertising I'm order to make their movies aware to an audience. New media and technology has encouraged a wide variety of people to purchase smart phones these come in handy as they make us able to scan QR codes to find a website more easily. This is a short video which explains the uses and benefits of using QR codes.

Distributors tend to use their know-how and size to make sure that the DVDs end up on shelves of supermarkets and stores, therefore making sure that the movies are able to make as much profit as possible.
Distributors also obtain the BBFC certificate, and use this to make sure that certain types of movies are released at appropriate times
for example, a horror movie released at Halloween or suspicious times such as Friday 13th. The ring is a prime example, being a Horror/Thriller movie it was released in October 18, 2002. This makes room for as much viewing as possible as the release date would be relevant.
Additional Comments
This is a brief summery of my understanding about Marketing and Distribution, this is work I have looked at during AS Level. However, I am currently looking in more depth at marketing and promotion by creating a digi pack and poster for an ancillary task for my pop promo at A2.
This is the front cover for our bands album so far, I have used my artistic and photography skills to paint over a photograph to give the images a more creative approach, although unfinished, this gives an idea on the types of tasks I have been involved in during A2 Media.
